Notes: According to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles at least two survivors have come forward alleging child sexual abuse by Msgr. Christian Van Liefde, between approximately 1971 and 1975. A child sexual abuse report was made in 1992 against Msgr. Van Liefde and was investigated by police. Msgr. Van Liefde was placed on leave in 2002. In 2003, an allegation of child sexual abuse and a civil lawsuit were brought against Fr. Van Liefde. Further, diocesan records provide that, in approximately 2005, Msgr. Van Liefde was informed by then Vicar for Clergy of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Craig Cox of allegations of sexual misconduct made against Msgr. Van Liefde by the daughter of a family who were members of St. Kilian parish in Mission Viejo in the early 1970s while Fr. Van Liefde was a seminarian and at St. Kilian, his home parish. Fr. Van Liefde was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. It is believed that as of approximately 2007, Msgr Van Lifde may have been residing in Mission Viejo, California. Fr. Van Liefde’s current status as a priest, his whereabouts, and whether he has access to children are unknown.
