Ordination: 1957
Notes: Fr. Harold J. DeJonghe was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1957. He was incardinated in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in approximately 1975. At some point between his retirement in approximately 1990 and his death in 1998, Fr. DeJonghe reportedly lived at the Nazareth House in Los Angeles. In a 2003 lawsuit, Fr. DeJonghe was accused of sexually abusing a child in the early 1980s. In 2004, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles concluded that the accusations were unfounded. However, Fr. DeJonghe was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct with minors. Records produced in connection with the Archdiocese’s Report to the People of God: Clergy Sexual Abuse Archdiocese of Los Angeles 1930-2003 indicate that Fr. DeJonghe worked as the Assistant Pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Santa Ana, California beginning in 1961. It is believed that Fr. DeJonghe was residing in Santa Monica, California as of the time of his death in 1998. Fr. DeJonghe’s access to children from 1990 until his death in 1998 is unknown.
