Notes: In 2003, a lawsuit was filed against the Diocese of Monterey claiming it had covered up child sexual abuse by Msgr. Joseph Pacheco. The child sexual abuse reportedly took place at parishes in Tulare, California and Merced, California in the early-to-mid 1960s. The lawsuit was settled in 2006, at which point Bishop Steinbock publicly apologized for the sexual abuse perpetrated by Msgr. Pacheco and reportedly acknowledged that Msgr. Pacheco sexually abused several other boys as well.
